About Grenada

Grenada, also known as the “Island of Spice,” is an island country that consists of six smaller islands at the southern end of the Grenadines chain in the southeastern part of Caribbean Sea. The island is located northwest of Trinidad and Tobago, northeast of Venezuela and southwest of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

Grenada has a tropical climate; hot and humid in the rainy season and cooler during the dry season due to the trade winds. Because of its location at the southern edge of the hurricane belt, Grenada has only suffered three hurricanes in 50 years.

As a part of commonwealth realm Queen Elizabeth II is its Queen and Head of State with the Crown represented by a Governor-General. Appointed by the Governor-General, the Prime Minister is usually the leader of the largest party in the Parliament.

The economy of Grenada is heavily reliant on tourism and is the main driving force to its economy. Grenada is a major producer and exporter of several spices including cinnamon, cloves, ginger, mace, allspice and nutmeg among others. It is the 2nd largest producer of nutmeg after Indonesia and the spice is depicted on the country’s flag.
