Biosecurity-ready moves
Packing, freight, Australian customs and delivery to your new home.
Before you pack
Australia's biosecurity requirements mean that certain belongings need extra preparation before they are packed and shipped. We provide professional packing, crating services and customs clearance support catered to moves to Australia. Reach out to us to learn more.
Before your move, check these six areas:
Clean garden tools, outdoor furniture, sports equipment, bicycles and other items that have been outside. Remove all soil, seeds, plant material and other visible contaminants.
Tents, hiking equipment, camping gear and sporting items should be thoroughly cleaned, particularly anything that has been used on soil, grass or in natural environments.
Clean shoes, boots, rugs, mats and similar items carefully. Pay particular attention to dirt, mud, seeds and other organic material trapped in soles, fibers or seams.
Inspect wooden furniture and other timber belongings for insects, holes, sawdust or other signs of infestation. Clean the items thoroughly before they are packed.
Boats, jet skis and other water-related equipment should be drained and completely dry before shipping. Remove any mud, plant material or other organic matter.
Clean pet equipment and belongings that may have been exposed to soil, plants or animals. Items should be free from hair, dirt, organic residue and other contaminants before packing.

Plan your budget
An overseas moving cost estimate can provide a rough starting point, but it cannot account for everything involved in an Australia relocation. Your actual price depends on shipment volume, U.S. origin, Australian destination, ocean or air freight, packing and crating, storage, vehicle or specialty-item shipping and destination requirements.

Arrival and delivery
The destination city does not necessarily mean your belongings will arrive through a port in that same city. Your shipping route, ocean service and final delivery location all influence the port used.
For customers moving to Sydney, international container shipments commonly move through Port Botany, New South Wales’ primary container port.
For moves to Melbourne, the Port of Melbourne is Australia’s largest container port and handles more than one-third of the country’s container trade.
For customers relocating to Brisbane or Queensland, the Port of Brisbane has multiple dedicated container berths and terminals handling international container traffic.
You may be moving to Perth, Adelaide, Canberra, or another Australian city even when your shipment first enters through a different port. We can arrange the transportation from the relevant Australian port through to your final residence.
Getting your belongings through the port is only one part of the move.

Yes. For unaccompanied personal effects, the Unaccompanied Personal Effects Statement (B534) is part of the Australian clearance process. We can help you organize the information needed for your shipment, including your packing list and declared goods of biosecurity concern.
If an item presents a biosecurity risk, it may need to be treated before it can be released. Depending on the item and the available treatment, it may instead need to be exported from Australia or destroyed. These costs are generally the responsibility of the importer, so we recommend checking potentially risky belongings before they are packed.
Yes, but wooden furniture needs to meet Australia’s biosecurity requirements. It should be clean and free from bark, insects, soil and other contaminants, and wooden items must be declared on arrival. We recommend checking for signs of timber pests, such as holes or sawdust, before packing your furniture.
Some food products may be permitted, while others are prohibited or require additional conditions or treatment. We recommend checking individual items through Australia’s Biosecurity Import Conditions System (BICON) before packing them. Fresh food should not be included, and opened dry food, herbs and spices can present a biosecurity risk.
Your packing list should clearly identify what is in each box or large item and should include the box number. For items that could raise biosecurity concerns, descriptions should also identify the material, such as a wooden chair, metal bed frame, or cane basket. A clear, detailed list can make it easier to identify goods during the Australian inspection process.
Yes. If your Australian home is not ready when your shipment arrives, we can discuss storage and destination delivery arrangements to help bridge the gap. This can be useful for customers moving ahead of their household shipment for work, study, or a permanent relocation.
Yes. We can arrange international transportation for motorcycles, campers, trailers, and other vehicles in addition to standard household belongings. The appropriate shipping method and import requirements will depend on the type of vehicle and your Australian destination.
