About Zimbabwe

Located in southern Africa, Zimbabwe is a landlocked country and is officially known as the Republic of Zimbabwe. Situated between the Zambezi and Limpopo rivers, Zimbabwe began as the British Crown Colony and has three official languages-English, Shona and Ndebele.

While Shona is the largest ethnic group of Zimbabwe, the country’s culture is diverse, with various peoples, beliefs, ceremonies and traditions. Pottery, basketry, textiles, jewelry and carving are traditional arts, and cricket, rugby and football are the most popular sports in the country.

Zimbabwe is bordered by South Africa, Botswana, Zambia and Mozambique. Home to one of the world’s largest waterfalls, Zimbabwe’s Victoria Falls is located on the northwestern side of the country, as part of the Zambezi River. In eastern Zimbabwe, the mountainous terrain boasts Mt. Nyangani, the country’s highest point.

The main supporters of the Zimbabwe economy are mineral exports, agriculture and tourism. The trade partners of Zimbabwe are Democratic Republic of the Congo, South Africa, Botswana, China, Zambia, Netherlands and UK.

Cost of living

The cost of living in Zimbabwe isn’t highly expensive if you consider monthly utilities like electricity bill, water bill, heating, and cooling bills. You can expect to pay approximately $62.82 per month for your bills. Overall, this will be a feasible option for a standard-sized apartment of around 85m2.

Education system

The education system in Zimbabwe comprises 7 years of primary education and 6 years of secondary education. Only after this, the students can enroll in a university either abroad or in the same country. The academic year in Zimbabwe starts in January and ends in December, each term of three months with a month holiday. So, there will be 40 weeks of school each year.

Health care system

The health care system of Zimbabwe has been seen deteriorating over time. The country is experiencing a lack of medical supplies, facilities as well as staff.
